Meet the Artist: Mohamad Fardous – The Story Behind Karma by Design

From Finance to Fine Art: How It All Started

Mohamad Fardous—also known as Moe or Dous—is the artist and founder behind Karma by Design, a Detroit-based creative studio specializing in custom artwork, oversized canvas prints, and statement pieces that spark conversation and give back.

While today he’s known for his original pop art collections and large-scale pieces, Moe’s journey didn’t start with a paintbrush—it started with a spreadsheet.

A Creative Spirit From the Start

Growing up in Detroit, Moe was always drawn to creativity. As a kid, he filled notebooks with drawings of dream houses, exotic cars, and imagined futures. He’d buy toys just to take them apart and rebuild them. He wasn’t trying to be an artist—he was just wired to create.

Despite his passion for design and visuals, Mohamad Fardous pursued a traditional career path. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Finance and Marketing, then spent nearly a decade at Rocket Mortgage. There, he built a high-powered career as a top-producing banker and eventually became Director of Finance, leading teams and mastering the art of influence and persuasion.

When Passion Meets Purpose

Even with financial success, something felt off.

Late nights were spent creating art—starting with small commissions for friends and family. Over time, word spread, and his side hobby grew into something bigger. He began working with brands, sourcing creative for businesses, and exploring new mediums. What once felt like a passion project started to feel like a calling.

So in a bold move, Mohamad left a secure six-figure job and walked straight into the unknown: full-time art.

Launching Karma by Design

In 2023, Karma by Design was born—an art brand built on three pillars: creativity, purpose, and impact. Specializing in custom art, luxury wall decor, and XL canvas prints, the brand quickly gained recognition for its bold visuals and social mission.

A portion of every sale goes directly to charity, helping support families in need. Every piece is more than just decor—it’s a conversation starter, a story, and a solution.

Signature Collections and Styles

Over the past year, Moe has created hundreds of original artworks across a wide range of styles. Some of his most notable collections include:

🎨 Unwilling Accomplice

A gritty, emotional pop art series exploring the darker sides of fame, power, and identity. These bold compositions blend modern culture with layered meaning.

🏎 Elements: Motor Metrics

Inspired by luxury and speed, this collection celebrates icons like Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, and Ferrari. It's a fusion of automotive design and high-end lifestyle energy—available as stretched canvas prints and framed wall pieces.

💥 Original Pop Art Remixes

Modern takes on iconic figures and brands, reimagined with texture, color, and attitude. Think Andy Warhol meets the 2020s—with nods to Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Basquiat, and Banksy.

Whether it’s creating custom art for an interior designer, a gift for a client, or an impactful gallery piece for a fundraiser, Karma by Design continues to blend modern aesthetics with meaning.

More Than Art: A Creative Agency Too

In addition to Karma by Design, Mohamad also runs House of Karma—a full-service creative agency offering branding, marketing, and web design. His business background gives him a unique edge: he doesn’t just create art, he builds brands.

A Message From Mohamad Fardous

“I didn’t grow up thinking I’d be an artist. But I always knew I wanted to build something that meant something. Now, I get to combine my creativity, business experience, and love for people—all while making an impact. That’s the real win.”
